Taking A Taxi in Australia

If you ever need a taxi in Australia, simply call "131 008" and order one. This is an Australia-wide telephone number and once a taxi is requested, it comes from the closest local taxi-stop. Pre-booking a taxi makes the things easier when the time, the taxi should stand in front of the door, is clear. Other than that, it is also possible to simply stop a taxi just by waving at them. There are plenty of taxis, waiting at the airport for the arriving guests. The cost of getting to the city centre from the airport is usually fixed.

It is not common for the taxis to have navigation systems in Australia but they are equipped with taximeter. Nevertheless, it is recommended to bargain (or at least ask for the price) before stepping in.

Unlike in Europe, the guests are expected to sit at the front seat in Australia. Failing to do so might be interpreted as a snob behavior.
