Rent a Car or Buy One?

If you choose to travel fully independently, the best solution is obtaining a car. You should just decide how. Many tourists buy a car, if they are up to staying for a longer period in Australia. Otherwise, it may better pay off, if you simply rent one whenever needed. For travelling short distances, especially inside the city, taking a taxi is also not a bad idea but take care! It may end up expensive...

In every case (except letting someone else drive you whereever you want), you should make sure that you have a valid driving licence, already before arriving to Australia. Once you fulfill this requirement, you just need to learn a couple of important rules and get used to the left-handed traffic, if you are more experienced with right-handed traffic at your home country.
