Time Zones in Australia
There are 3 time zones in Australia. Eastern Standard Time (EST), Central Standard Time (CST) and Western Standard Time (WST). When the northern hemisphere changes to summer time, some parts of Australia change to winter time. And vice versa accordingly...
It is a tough work to calculate the time in Australia, due to many exceptions among the states regarding summer and winter times. Rules to be kept in mind are:
- Only New South Wales, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and South Australia join the Daylight Saving Time.
- In all of these states, winter time starts on the last Sunday of March while the summer time starts on the last Sunday of October at everywhere except Tasmania. *Tasmania switches to summer time already on the first Sunday of October.
- Queensland and Northern Territory do not take part in this winter-summer time switch.
- Western Australia decided to join the application starting from 03.12.2006 for a trial period of 3 years.
