Smoking in Australia
According to the federal law, smoking is prohibited in all of the governmental buildings, workplaces and flights. Furthermore, each state in Australia manages its own smoking bans where in most of the states, smoking indoors is banned. Nevertheless, the definition of indoors may be tricky since in all of the states, except Tasmania, Queensland and Western Australia, indoors means a place where at least %70-75 of the notional wall and the ceiling area is closed. Windows and doors are counted as gateways to fresh air and are a part of the remaining %25-30.
Tasmania, Queensland and Western Australia are much more strict with smoking ban. In Tasmania and Western Australia, smoking is forbidden in all indoor places without any further details. In Queensland, smoking is banned not only indoors but also at all outdoor public places and every place where food is involved. Moreover, in outdoor pubs there are very strict regulations that allow the smokers smoke only at a special area, dedicated for this purpose. A buffer of at least 2 meters wide area or a proper screen must isolate this place from its surroundings. No food or drink can be served in this smoking corner and no entertainment or service is allowed be carried on.
