Restaurants in Australia
There are many options in Australia when the question "where shall we eat?" comes up. Pubs, cafes, fast-food restaurants and luxury restaurants are only some of the options. Ethnical restaurants also have a special place in Australia. It is possible to eat delicacies from all over the world in these restaurants.
There are also BYO (Bring Your Own) restaurants where the guests are expected to bring their own (alcoholic) drinks. Alternatively, they can send someone to fetch a drink and pay some money. Selling alcohol is pretty difficult in Australia, since special licenses should be obtained by the restaurants. The barmens and barmaids are also obliged to have completed a certified "Responsible Service of Alcohol" training. Since these procedures are time and money consuming, the restaurants have found the solution in letting everyone bring his/her own drink.
It may be difficult to find place at the restaurants depending on the day of the week. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance.
The prices may vary depending on each restaurant. In general, food at small scale restaurants costs more or less the same as in Europe while the prices can go pretty high at the luxury restaurants.
It is common to give tip for good service in Australia. At the restaurants, the usual tip is 5%-10% of the bill.
