Wave Rock
Australia is probably the richest country in the world when it comes to interesting rock formations. Wave Rock is one of these. It is a 15 meters high, over 100 meters long rock formation shaped like a surf wave that is about to break. It is mainly built of granite and it gained various colors during its 2,7 billion years of evaluation with the effect of the weather, water and erosion.
In addition to Wave Rock, there are a couple of other rock formations in the surroundings as well. Hippo's Yawn is also worth a visit. Have a look at this rock and feel yourself in front of a yawning hippopotamus. And if you would like to see even more, The Humps and Mulka's Cave are waiting for you. The Humps contains some Aboriginal art while Mulka's Cave is especially famous for the fingerprints of Mulka, an aboriginal guy who used to live in the cave, which are bigger than usual human fingerprints.
All of these spectacular rock formations are located just a few kilometers away from Hyden, 350km east of Perth. The city of Hyden offers various attractions. The wildflowers bloom during spring (from September to December) and create a gorgeous scene. The fauna in the wildlife park, consists of local species like koalas and kangaroos, amazes everyone. An observatory is also available in the nearby. Last but not the least, take a scenic flight and have a look at this magnificent landscape from a different point of view, namely from the air. You'll love it!
