Margaret River

Margaret River and all the natural wonders in its surroundings are a part of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. It is located between Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste and is truly a paradise for the nature lovers. The spot where the two oceans, Indian and Southern, meet is marked with an over 100 year old lighthouse. And the lighthouse is still working. Surprising but true! It also indicates the most southwestern point of Australia and can be accessed by a 10 minute-drive from Augusta.

Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park is home to numerous attractive caves. Only four of them are open to public. Mammoth Cave is the most popular one since it offers a great exhibition of extinct animal fossils. It is featured with MP3 audio self-guiding system, allowing the visitors to discover the secrets of the cave on their own.

Surfers from all over the world meet at Margaret River Region in order to demonstrate their best to the audience, sliding through huge waves. Margaret River Classic and Margaret River Pro, a four star World Qualifying Series event, takes place every year and attracts the surf fans.

Surf, snorkel or discover the underwater world of the area with an oxygen tank. Hand feed the stingrays and observe the dolphins. If you need a break to recharge your batteries then simply laze on the stunning beaches. Hamelin Bay is the ideal location to carry on all of these at once. And just a hint for birdwatchers.... The birdlife is definitely worth to inspect.

Margaret River is also known as one of the best regions to produce wine. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay, Shiraz and Semillon of the region win many awards. If you would like to taste some of these award-winning wines, it should not be a problem. Over 90 wineries can be accessed through Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association.

Margaret River is located around 270km south of Perth and can be accessed either by car or by buses that operate between Perth city centre and Margaret River everyday. Southwest coachlines also offers an alternative daily service to the region.
