Melbourne is located on Port Phillip Bay which has many beautiful beaches. The most popular beach is St. Kilda, one of the most spectacular points on the bay, which is pretty close to the city centre. Other than St. Kilda, Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Middle Park, Brighton and Sandringham Beaches also draw swimmers' attention. These beaches are watched by lifeguards during the high season (including the weekends and public holidays) and therefore they are safe. For surfers, there are numerous beaches outside the bay that require a bit further traveling. Those who prefer to not to swim in the sea can make a visit to a swimming pool instead.
