Royal Tasmanian Botanic Gardens

Royal Tasmanian Botanic Gardens are a 14 hectares paradise in the heart of Hobart since 1818. It is worth to mention, they are one of the oldest botanic gardens in Australia. European settlement took them over from Aborigines and by time Royal Tasmanian Botanic Gardens turned to be the finest collection of stunning plants. Especially the trees... A significant number of trees are from the nineteenth century! You should see it to believe it!

In addition to amazing Tasmanian plants, the exotic flora in Japanese and Chinese Gardens are an appreciable part of the affluence of Royal Tasmanian Botanic Gardens. But what makes the gardens unique, is the worlds only subantartic house. In subantartic house, plants from high southern attitudes are being bred with sensitive care of botanic experts. The original sound recorded on Macquarie Island accompanies the visitors across the garden. You will feel yourself in the embrace of the nature!

Royal Tasmanian Botanic Gardens are rich of events and festivals. If you are in the surroundings at the correct time of the year, don't miss the top event! The Tulip Festival... The festival was introduced in 1985 and since then is known as spring feasting. It takes place on the first weekend in October every year. Food, drinks and fun are unlimited!

Royal Tasmanian Botanic Gardens are located very close to Hobart city centre, just 2kms away... There are many ways to access the gardens totally depending on individual taste. Take a walk from the city, crossing Queens Domain, cycle along the river, take own car or public transport... Or would you appreciate a good hint? Take the ferry from Brooke Street Pier on Hobart waterfront and combine a breathtaking cruise with the charm of the nature!
