Battery Point

Named after the progressive gun aggregation, Battery Point is known as the historical town and old Maritime Village of Hobart. Battery Point's close location to the city centre, its well preserved nineteenth century architecture and magnificent waterfront views attract both the locals and the tourists for a cup of coffee and more... Climb up Kelly's Steps from Salamanca Place to get to Battery Point and take a walk among the elegant old houses, discovering every street and enjoying every minute!

The most impressive building at Battery Point is St George's Church. It was designed by two architects, the main body by Archer and the tower by Blackburn, in neo-classical style. The church was erected in 1838 and is almost as old as Hobart City.

Apart from Salamanca Place and waterfront views, numerous attractions at Battery Point are worth to spend some time. Visit the first Battery Point pub "Whaler's Return", take a picture of the windmill (over 170 years old) and relax at a restaurant or at a shop at the exclusive cottages of Arthur's Circus. If getting to know more about the history and the culture of the region is on top of your priority list, Angelsea Barracks, the first military establishment at Battery Point, Tasmanian Maritime Museum and Colonial Museum offer a great trip back in time.
