Devonport
Devonport is the most important port on the north of Tasmania. The visitors, who cross Bass Strait, mostly arrive in Devonport after a long journey. Sprit of Tasmania ferries arrive in and depart from Devonport at least once a day. Sometimes even twice during the high season... The ferries transport both passengers and vehicles between Melbourne and Devonport. Once the visitors arrive Tasmania, they usually continue to the surrounding cities or to Launceston after spending a relaxing day discovering Devonport. Since Devonport is situated on the mouth of Mersey River, taking a cruise is the best way to explore the city. Especially when the sun shines...
Devonport has a couple of interesting things to see. For those who would like to learn more of Australia's indigenous inheritage, Tiagarra Aboriginal Culture and Art Centre is an outstanding attraction. Some Aboriginal rock engravings have been found in the area at the end of 1920ies and shortly afterwards the area was taken under protection. Tiagarra Aboriginal Culture and Art Centre was erected eventually and currently the exhibitions display over 2000 Aboriginal artifacts. It is an ideal place to obtain a indigenous souvenir for the beloved ones. Guided tours are available in the centre which amaze even more while giving a sight into the history of Australia.
Imaginarium Science Centre represents the technical side of Devonport for mostly families with children. There are numerous interactive exhibitions where the kids experience the fun part of science. Nothing can teach as good as the hands-on experiments!!! Imaginarium Science Centre is only one of its kind in Tasmania since 2001. It has agreements with Questacon, in Canberra, and will be home to even more amazing exhibitions in the future.
Do you like chocolate? Who does not... House of Anvers has been producing the best of Belgian truffles, fudge, orange chocolates and pralines since 1989.
