Adelaide Botanic Gardens

Adelaide Botanic Gardens serve for those, for whom nature is an indispensable part of life, even in the middle of the city. They are just a short walk away from the city centre and impress the visitors with numerous exhibitions. A wide range of plant collection is available from Mediterrenian plants to roses, from Madagascan plants to rainforest species... Especially roses get a special care since the first National Rose Trial Garden has been founded here in 1996. Roses brought from all over the world are being grown under control in this garden and they are being observed and analyzed to determine if Australian climate is suitable for them to live in. The experiments sometimes result with success sometimes with disappointment. The actual winner is the visitor who gets the chance to see the most beautiful roses in the world!

Palm House and Mediterrenian Garden are also very popular to visit. The Palm Hause is a modern glass house. Buildings, made of glass, are pretty common nowadays. Would you believe that it has been built in 1875? The house has even preserved its situation for a long time and had to pass through a bigger scale renovation only once, since it has been built. Inside, numerous plants from Island of Madagascar can be seen. Also drop by to Mediterrenian House and see many plants that can be found only in those parts of the world with Mediterrenian climate.

The volunteer guides of the gardens offer free of charge tours that depart from outside Botanic Gardens Restaurant everyday at 10.30am. Don't miss this chance.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens are open everyday but the opening times vary depending on the day of the week and time of the year. It is recommended to check the official web site to get the maximum out of the visit.
