Barossa Valley
Barossa Valley is home to world-famous Shiraz and Eden Valley Riesling as well as several other high quality wines. Spare some time to make a visit to the valley and see the oldest Shiraz vineyards in the world. Did you know that Shiraz grapes grow only in South Australia and nowhere else? Barossa Valley provides the perfect climate for this special grape type which makes the taste unique.
Numerous wineries offer wine tasting in Barossa Valley. The most popular ones are Jacob's Creek and Chateau Yaldara. Some of the wineries also have restaurants where the desired wine can be tasted with a light lunch or on friday evenings with a nice dinner.
Wine tasting is not the only activity at Barossa Valley. The valley is not small (20kmx10km) and has a botanic garden where native plants from the valley can be seen. If you seek more adventure, take a bushwalk at Barossa Bushgardens. Or have you ever thought about taking a golf course? Maybe first getting an overview of Barossa Valley would be the best. A guided tour or even going around with a helicopter or a balloon would be ideal for that. Don't forget to visit Mengler Hill. Bring your camera as well and immortalize the fascinating moment in front of this magnificent view.
Barossa Valley hosts some festivals as well. In addition to food and music festivals, Barossa Vintage Festival is the biggest party in the valley. It continues for a week and takes place every second year. It is a really great opportunity to enjoy the region's way of life, namely food and wine!
Barossa Valley is located 60km northeast of Adelaide. Getting there with own vehicle is of course an option but remember the pretty low alcohol limit in South Australia and decide, if this option is suitable for you.
