South Molle Island
South Molle Island is one of the many fascinating islands in the heart of Whitsundays.
South Molle Island is the biggest island in Molle Islands National Park that consists of three islands with tempting sand beaches and amazing rainforests surrounded with the best of blue. Bushwalking tracks are abundant and each lead to another part of the paradise. Two of the tracks are especially popular. Spion Kop Track is around 2.2km long and leads to Spion Kop Lookout where spectacular views of Hook, Hamilton, Dent, Whitsunday, Pine, Long and Planton Islands can be seen. On a clear day, even Glouchster Island Group is visible on the horizon. Passle Bay Track is just 500m long starting from Western End and if you don't give up before getting to the beachside path, the views of Daydream, Mid and North Molle Islands will take your breath away. Both tracks go through the rainforest with an accompanying peaceful background music by the local birds that happily perform the song of the day.
The best places for snorkelling around South Molle Island is actually at the north of the outer islands. Remember that it is usually possible to simply walk to the outer islands when the tide is low. Alternatively, Sandy Bay features a hidden world under its pale blue crytal clear waters. Once you put your snorkelling gears on, the spellbinding underwater world will be unfolding constantly in front of your eyes. Other water sports are also available.
South Molle Island is the only resort island in Molle Islands National Park. But for those who prefer to enjoy the nature more, there are camping possibilities at Sandy Bay and Paddle Bay.
South Molle Island is just on the east of Daydream Island and can be accessed with a private boat as well as scheduled boats from Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour.
