Hook Island

Hook Island is the second biggest island in Whitsundays.

Hook Island is mainly a national park and is almost inhabited. Although it is easily accessible from the mainland, it is still the best address to spend a couple of days in absolute tranquility. The northern shore of the island offers excellent snorkelling and diving possibilities. However, if you take a walk through the observatory down to a depth of 9m, you will be surrounded by the most fascinating views of over 100 coral species without even getting wet. The corals around Hook Island are known to be some of the most beautiful ones in Whitsundays.

The landscape of Hook Island is also worth to mention and there are a few walking tracks that serve for exploration purposes. One of these tracks lead to Butterfly Bay which is shaped like a butterfly and is also home to lovely butterflies during certain times of the year.

The accommodation possibilities on Hook Island are accumulated at the south shore. A resort and some camping places are available.

Hook Island is easily accessible from Airlie Beach Abel Point Marina with daily boat transfers.
