Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island, Great Barrier ReefWhitsundays consist of 74 islands. Hamilton Island is the largest one. It offers picturesque sights with tropical beaches, turquoise waters and pristine landscape. Either simply relax on the beach and work on tan or go for a discovery tour through the walking tracks.

Hamilton Island offers diverse activities for every taste. The island is an ideal destination for snorkelling and scuba diving. Many other water sports can be carried on as well. Try sea-kayaking if you have never done it before. Take a scenic flight and have a look at spellbinding Whitsundays from the air. By the way, Hamilton Island is also home to Koala Gallery. Don't miss the chance to take a picture with them. If you spend a night on Hamilton Island, you can make a breakfast together with the koalas in the next morning as well.

No cars are allowed on Hamilton Island. This has not only kept the air clean but it also avoids any inconvenient noise as well. Regardless of where you get on the island, you hear only the birds. It is also a great experience for the big city people, simply walking around without any worries about getting driven-over. And imagine... No traffic lights... However, if you find the island is too large for exploring on foot, fetch a golf buggy and enjoy it.

There are only a few resorts on the island which are accumulated at two places. Most of the resorts are located very close to the harbour while only one is on the far side of the island. Therefore, the nature has been preserved so successfully. Every spot on the island is the heart of the nature.

Hamilton Island has the only airport in Whitsundays where bigger size commercial airplanes can land. Therefore, it is very easy to access Hamilton Island. There are many direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns and Brisbane. It is also possible to get to the island by boat. The boats depart from Shute Harbour, close to Airlie Beach.
