Daydream Island
Daydream Island uses the advantage of being the closest island to the mainland (just 5km away from Queensland coast) very well and offers unlimited amount fun.
The island is just 1km long and half a kilometer wide but is home to a unique man-made aquarium in the form of a reef lagoons network which brings together over 40 species of marine fish and 50 coral varieties. Even the beaches consist of coral and not sand. Lovers Cove is the best spot for a breathtaking panorama of the underwater world. Snorkelling gear can be rented on the island but bringing your own would save you the hiring fees as well as the taste of the sterilization solution. In addition to snorkelling, birdwatching and bushwalking are some of the most popular activities. Put on your walking shoes and head to the forest. You'll notice pretty fast that parrots and sun birds are abundant.
Getting to Daydream Island is pretty easy. If you are already on Hamilton Island, you can take either the ferry or a seaplane to Daydream Island. If you are on the mainland, either head to Shute Harbour and take the ferry from there or make your way to Whitsunday Airport and take a seaplane. Ferry from Shute Harbour takes 15 minutes while the one from Airlie Beach Abel Point Marina gets to Daydream Island within half an hour. Helicopter transfers are also available during the daylight.
