Gold Coast
The fascinating Gold Coast starts from New South Wales border of Queensland and streches all the way up to Brisbane. Coolangatta, at the beginning of the route, acts as a smaller scale Surfers Paradise but has a relaxed and silent life style. The coast continues further to Burleigh Heads on the north. The main attraction at Burleigh Heads is Burleigh Head National Park. It is a relatively small park compared to Springbrook and Lamington National Parks, and can easily be explored through the walking trails. Burleigh Heads can also be taken as a milestone just at the beginning of a chain of tempting beaches.
Miami is a small town just 2km north of Burleigh Heads. Following the route to the north, Nobby Beach, Mermaid Beach, Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise are located respectively. Surfers Paradise is a great mix of a business and fun at the same time. There is a path to the beach from each skyscraper where the daily lives of the residents go on. Shopping arcades, restaurants, pubs and nightlife... And of course the gorgeous surf... Take a surf board or a body board and start dancing on the waves. Or simply hire a jet ski if you want. Have you ever seen any whales? Go for fishing or a whale watching cruise. If you are around in late October, you may also have the chance to watch Gold Coast Indy 300 Grand Prix Race. There is always something to do at Surfers Paradise.
Looking for getting away from the crowd? Then the nearby beaches (Miami, Nobby, Mermaid Beaches and Broadbeach) are ideal for relaxing while enjoying the nature and similar activities. No wonder that the millionaires obtain their homes on Mermaid Beach instead. And Conrad Jupiters Casino at Broadbeach is a paradise for those who trust their luck. Or simply go for a lower risiko activity instead. Exactly! Pacific Fair Shopping Centre...
Although Gold Coast is more famous of its amazing sand beaches and surf, Gold Coast Hinterland is the heart of the wildlife. Did you know that the world's largest sub-tropical rainforest is located at Gold Coast Hinterland? There are several rainforests and national parks in the hinterland. Caves, waterfalls, pools and of course Australian flora and fauna... A great chance to experience that Australia does not only consist of beaches.
Mt. Tamborine is one of the spectacular places which has 9 national parks around itself. It is the most favorite spot for hand gliders and it is located just 35km west of Surfers Paradise. If you have enough time, spare some for Springbrook National Park as well. Visit Natural Arch, swim under the waterfall in the clear waters coming from the mountains and take a few pictures of Purlingbrook Falls enjoying the picnic places in the surroundings. Lamington National Park is huge but is a great place to see a gorgeous subtropical rain forest. Follow the walking trails through caves, waterfalls, gorges and pools. If you are interested in animal watching, there are plenty of Australian species in the park. If you can not see them, you can at least hear them.
Gold Coast starts from Coolangatta and ends up at Brisbane. Greyhound can easily get you there or simply take a car from Brisbane and also explore the hinterland as well as the coast line.
