South Bank
South Bank, linked to the city with Goodwill Bridge, is recreation place #1 in Brisbane. No vehicles, just nature and life!
South Bank has so much to offer that there is more than enough fun for every taste. This makes this oasis one of the most popular spots in the city both for the tourists as well as for the residents of Brisbane. Take a walk along the river, play games, discover the parklands on bike or rollerblades and once you wish to take a break, relax on your picnic mat next to the nearest barbecue. And a hint: You will feel yourself like under the arch of heaven while walking through the stunning Arbour.
Did you know that Riverside Green hosts public fitness sessions twice a week? Bring your sports stuff and join the fun, aerobics under the palm trees. River view on one side, exotic plants on the other. South Bank also contains two open-air cinemas. Just drop by, preferably with your own blanket, and watch a nice movie under the stars or feel yourself like in the stadium when any sports event is on air. In addition to the open-air ones, you can also visit the cinema complex and see the biggest screen in Queensland with your own eyes.
And Streets Beach... The only beach in Australia, located at the city centre. It consists of a magnificent man-made lagoon, surrounded by white sand, exotic plants and palm trees. A truly fabulous atmosphere! Since the water here is regularly chlorinated and chemically treated before it is pumped back into the lagoon, it glitters. You won't be able to stop yourself from watching this amazing view.
South Bank also offers a lot of cultural activities. Queensland Museum is located here and it is a fascinating world for the children. Sciencentre inside Queensland Museum also attracts numerous children from every age (including the really older ones). The art gallery is ideal for spending the afternoon among the gorgeous fruits of creativity. If you discover the hidden artist inside yourself while walking around, make your way directly to Illusion House. Here you can find a course to learn how to create those masterpieces.
Last but not the least, shopping and dining... South Bank Lifestyle Market is very well equipped to provide the visitors with clothing, accessories, Australian-made and imported goods and a lot more. And keep in mind: Little Stanley Street and Grey Street are the paradise when you look for a bite.
South Bank has a great location from transportation point of view. The easiest way to get there is taking CityCat on Brisbane River and hopping off at South Bank Harbour. Crossing Goodwill Bridge jogging, rollerblading, cycling or simply strolling is another alternative. South Bank hosts many events all year around and it is the meeting point for Brisbanites on special days like Australia Day, New Year's Eve and ANZAC Day. So keep an eye on the future events.
