Moreton Bay
Moreton Bay, just around 20km away from Brisbane CBD, is a great centre for fun at all seasons. It is just like a part of Great Barrier Reef and simply grandiose. The bay is composed of 3 beautiful islands that surround Brisbane coastline. The biggest one of these is North Stradbroke Island. The picturesque one in the middle is Moreton Island which has given its own name to the bay. The northmost one is Bribie Island and is a unique place to visit since the scene of the magnificent Pumicestone Passage, remains between Bribie Island and the mainland, is unforgettable.
In addition to 3 bigger scale islands, each of the smaller islands inside the bay offer a lot more to do. If you feel like a day should have had far more than 24 hours, consider staying overnight at Dolphin Resort or camps and don't leave the region without observing this paradise under the stars.
Due to the 3 islands that work as breakwater, the sea in the bay is pretty calm. Therefore, swimming, snorkelling and diving conditions are top. Numerous wrecks are target #1 for divers and snorkellers. Some of these are also home to many sea creatures in Moreton Bay. Don't get surprised if you come face to face with a grey nurse shark when you dive 1-2 meters below the surface to have a closer look at a wreck.
Moreton Bay has a stunning nature. Both flora and fauna are fantastic here. Have you ever hand-fed a wild dolphin? Or been so close to a bunch of koalas in the nature? It is unlikely to walk around in the greater Redlands area without meeting any koalas. The birdlife is also worth to mention. More than 350 bird species attract visitors from all over the world. Whales, dugongs, turtles and many more...
By the way, don't let the charming wildlife and underwater world make you forget about taking a bike ride on the coastline. Visit the coastal villages to have a picture of historical Brisbane during the colonial time. It is also possible to take the car around or simply book a tour and let an experienced Brisbanite guide answer all the questions in your mind.
Moreton Bay and its surroundings offer many breathtaking attractions as well. Do you know why the birds sing? Well, once you have made a jump from an airplane in the skies of this spectacular city, you will understand why! Make a try or seriously learn parachuting and get used to landing on the beach... Truely an adrenalin pump! Another option is taking flying courses and one day flying your own small plane! Equally fun without sacrificing so much adrenaline is quad-biking from the top of a sand dune. Jetskiing, sea-kayaking, aqua-biking, windsurfing, riding a yacht... Invest some time to plan everything, you would like to fit into each day carefully!
