Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Don't miss Brisbane's Lone Pine Koala SanctuaryBrisbane's Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the first and the largest koala sanctuary in the world. It is home to over 130 koalas. Furthermore, other Aussie species like kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, Tasmanian devil, snakes, dingoes and many more can also be seen and sometimes even hugged and petted here. Shortly a real paradise for animal lovers!

Have you ever hugged a koala? The sanctuary gives this chance and you can even let a photo of yourself made, cuddling this unique Australian specie in order to document this unforgettable moment. Take a walk through the park afterwards and witness their daily life. If you get surprised when you see only a few of them awake, remember that koalas spend 18-22 hours of the day sleeping. Strange but true!

Would you like to hand-feed a kangaroo? Or Rainbow Lorikeet? You are welcome to enjoy it. It is recommended to check the feeding times of other inhabitants in advance and plan the time accordingly to not to miss the chance to watch -for example- the Tasmanian Devil being fed. Hand-feeding him is not allowed!

The sheep dog show is also an amusing part of a day at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. An Australian outback farm is simulated inside the sanctuary environment and the smart and cute Aussie sheep dogs demonstrate their sheep mustering skills. Cuddle them and make a photo after the show. The show takes place three times a day.

By the way, BBQ facilities and picnic area provide the opportunity to enjoy a nice meal while listening to the sound of the wild! Splendid!

There are several means of transport to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Mirimar Boat Cruises depart from Cultural Centre Pontoon once a day and arrive in the sanctuary within 1,5 hours. The cruise is also an opportunity to see Brisbane from the river and take spectacular pictures. Another boat departs from the sanctuary at noon and brings the visitors back to the city. Taking Brisbane City Council buses is another option which, in fact, brings a significant time flexibility as the buses depart every hour to and from the sanctuary. The best option is combining the boat and bus trips at each direction. Get to the sanctuary making an amazing trip on Brisbane River and take the last bus back to the city in the afternoon. Or if you prefer to be the first one to cuddle the koalas in the morning, take the bus to get to the sanctuary and enjoy a boat trip back to the city.
