Airlie Beach

Boats depart from Shute Harbour and Abel Point Marina to Whitsunday IslandsAirlie Beach is a truly astonishing destination in Queensland. The population of this lovely town is hardly over 3000 people but the visitors flood the region all year around. The white sailing boats on the blue waters of Abel Point Marine look like a bunch of pearls on a blue velvet cushion. Besides, the town has a relatively short but beautiful beach surrounded by trees and BBQ places. And also the shimmery lagoon... Airlie Lagoon, with its stinger-free crystal clear waters, is a very safe place for swimming.

The location of Airlie Beach makes it one of the must-see destinations in Australia. Did you know that Airlie Beach is the most ideal gateway to Great Barrier Reef and Whitsundays? Make your way to Shute Harbour, just 10km southeast of Airlie Beach, and take a boat to Daydream Island, Long Island or Hamilton Island. Either spoil yourself staying at one of these masterpieces of the nature or simply sail among all these beauties on day tours.

The life on Airlie Beach does not only consist of sun bathing. The area is perfect for diving. Why not go one step further and get a diving licence as well? Make your first experiences at Airlie and become a diving guru in the miraculous world of Great Barrier Reef. If you prefer to remain above the sea level, go for a whale watching tour instead. Or how about taking a walk in the surroundings? Conway National Park has quite a few walking tracks with the spellbinding views of Whitsundays to the horizon. Some of the tracks are pretty short, some require more time to go through. If you are up to a real adrenalin rush, just a hint... Skydivers and paragliders get a sight of the region from a totally different and unusual perspective.

Among many festivals that go on at Airlie Beach all year around, Whitsunday Fun Race has a special place. From smaller motor boats to maxi yachts, a wide variety of vessels compete with each other and the winner gets awarded at a great party where the fireworks make the sparkling stars jealous. Whitsunday Fun Race takes place every September.

The nightlife at Airlie Beach is also very vibrant. Many restaurants as well as night clubs are located on Shute Harbour Road. The pubs are the best places to meet other backpackers and even go for a joint route afterwards. Eat, drink and dance all night around... Enjoy the best of Airlie Beach...

Getting to Airlie Beach is not so difficult. It lays on the route of Greyhound. However, a faster transportation to the region is also possible. Domestic flights are available to Proserpine Airport which is just around 30-45 minutes of drive away from the coast.
