Nourlangie Area is the second Aboriginal Rock Arts Centre of Kakadu National Park. Nourlangie Rock itself is well worth a visit. Furthermore, there are impressive rock art galleries and a lot of history in the area. Each of Anbangbang rock shelter, Anbangbang gallery and Nanguluwur art site have their own unique story. The time you spend at any of these will be some of the most interesting most unforgettable moments of your life. In fact, all can be accessed by Noorlagie Lookout Walking Track within an hour.
In addition to stunning Aboriginal Rock Art, Nourlangie Area has a great landscape, flora and fauna. Several of Kakadus lovely birds and fabulous plants can be seen here. The vista from Guwarddehwardde lookout is breathtaking to say the least.The friendly rock wallabies will be accompanying you from time to time during your walks if you are early enough in the morning.
There are 7 more walking tracks at Nourlangie Area. 4 of them can be discovered only during the dry season. Among all of these Anbangbang Billabong Walking Track offers the magnificent views of Anbangbang Billabong and also features picnic tables so it is a great stop during the dry season. The walk continues for only 2,5km and takes approximately an hour. Furthermore, Gubara Pools Walk leads to other special parts of the park where sandstone cliffs and monsoon forest pools can be seen. The panorama is picturesque. This is also a dry season walk through a 6km moderate track and takes around 4 hours.
Once you feel yourself satisfied with the Aboriginal Rock Art at Nourlangie Area, head to Yellow Water Area and enjoy some time at Yellow Water Wetlands. The best way to see them is simply sliding through them with Yellow Water Cruises. This is also a great opportunity to view saltwater crocodiles from so nearby. During the dry season, it is also possible to explore Yellow Water Wetlands on foot. There are dedicated walking tracks which are neither long nor difficult. Among the three walking paths, two of them can be accessed more or less all year around. If you have an hour to spend, you can see a lot more than you would expect. It is a memorable wildlife experience.
There are some camping sites in Kakadu National Park as well as some better standard accommodation. Gagudju Cooinda Lodge is one of them which also provides fuel as well as food.
Nourlangie Area and Yellow Water Area are located further to the south of Jabiru and can be conveniently accessed through Kakadu Highway. However, it is wise to check the road reports before starting a journey.
