Darwin can be used as the perfect base camp as starting or ending point of many tours. This magnificent tropical city itself already has a lot and its surroundings offer even more. So put on your walking boots. An unforgettable time is waiting for you.

Here are some interesting facts about Darwin:

Darwin is the capital city of Northern Territory and is the only tropical capital city in Australia. More than 100,000 people are living in Darwin which has a turbulent history. It was founded in 1869 and was destroyed during World War II. Today, it is possible to find some left over buildings from that time like ammunition bunkers, airstrips or oil tunnels.

Later on, 70% of all buildings were destroyed as tropical Cyclone Tracy hit Darwin in 1974. This event is well documented at Museum and Art Gallery of Northern Territory which is also worth to visit. The city was rebuilt afterwards and it is now a modern city with a relaxed lifestyle. The population of Darwin is younger than the average in Australia.
