Sydney Aquarium

Sydney Aquarium, Darling HarbourWith its 3 huge oceanariums and 60 individual tanks, Sydney Aquarium is a lovely home to more than 650 species, in total of over 11,500 animals. The spectacular underwater views here fascinate everyone from every age. Sydney Aquarium is proud of exhibiting the most extensive collection of Australian aquatic life while the Great Barrier Reef Oceanarium is the largest of its type in the world. Furthermore, over 100 sharks of 12 species can be seen at the open oceanarium. Australia is surely the best place in the world to view these amazing animals from so nearby. Just the grey nurse sharks consume around 4 tonnes of food per year! Is it not astonishing? And the seal sanctuary... The world's oldest known seal sanctuary. The sea water in here is filtered directly from Sydney Harbour so that the lucky residents of the sanctuary feel like at home. A breathtaking walk through the underwater tunnels of this magnificent world is a lifetime experience.

Apart from seals and sharks, also clownfish ("nemos"), penguins, sea horses, sea lions, corals, crocs, jellyfish and hundreds of more species... By the way, have you ever seen these beautiful animals hungry? You can take great shots during the live feed while sharks, seals or Great Barrier Reef Oceanarium residents eat up their breakfast which takes place either at 9.15am or at 11am. Do not worry, if you have already missed the breakfast. You can take the second chance at around 3pm in the afternoon. Shortly, prepare yourself for an unforgettable day under the water in the heart of Sydney.

How to get to Sydney Aquarium? The ferries that depart from Circular Quay make a stop directly in front of Sydney Aquarium. Or you should leave Monorail at Darling Park Station or train at Town Hall Station. The aquarium is also the 22nd stop of "hop on-hop off" Sydney Explorer Buses. But a short walk from Sydney CBD where you can award yourself by taking in spectacular habour views at the end of the way, would be the best.

Sydney Aquarium welcomes visitors everyday between 9am and 10pm. On Christmas and New Year's Eve, the Aquarium closes at 6pm.
