Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie is located where Hastings River meets the sea. It is a relatively small city, full of diverse activities. Almost all water sports and wildlife watching are beloved. Port Macquarie town also has numerous historical spots. So do the surrounding towns... Wauchope and Gladstone are top with their heritage listed court, police station and steam railway.

The panorama over Port Macquarie town and vicinity is picturesque and there are a couple of lookouts, that sight can be seen until satisfied. Make your way to South West Rocks and visit Smoky Cape Lighthouse. Or simply head to Gaol Point Lookout at Port Macquarie town. From both, you can see 360 degree bird's eye view of the region.

Once you start to search for beaches, the nearest one to Port Macquarie town is Town Beach. Flynn's Beach also attracts many people. If you are more into surfing, keep in mind that there are several beaches for surfers. Especially Crescent Head is internationally recognized. If you like a sail accompanying you while dancing on the waves, just a hint... Port Macquarie is an ideal destination for windsurfing. Among many beaches and bays, Big Bay, Regatta Grounds and Trial Bay offer the most suitable windsurfing conditions. Underwater fans... Divers who end up at Fish Rock Cave at South West Rocks make the experience of their lives with grey nurse sharks.

If you prefer to have fun without getting wet, there are still a couple of things you can enjoy. Fishing for example... If you don't feel like catching them, watch them instead. Whale and dolphin watching tours are available, waiting for visitors.

Have you already seen koalas in Australia? There are a bunch of them at Billabong Koala and Aussie Wildlife Park. For more of nature, several nature parks and reserves are available at Port Macquarie region. Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park is one of them, maybe the most visitor friendly one... Spend a few hours, going through their well indicated walking paths. Another option would be simply following the coastline walking through the green. You'll find yourself refreshed in the heart of the nature.

Port Macquarie is situated 385km north of Sydney and 560km from Brisbane. Getting there is possible by car or by coaches (like Greyhound). A faster option is taking a plane to Port Macquarie Airport, which is pretty close to the town.
