Australian Capital Territory
Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is the smaller one of the two territories in mainland Australia. It is established in the surroundings of the national capital, Canberra. ACT is located at New South Wales and unlike other states and territories, it does not have any coast to any ocean or sea. Furthermore, it is in average of 600m above the sea level and surrounded with mountains which makes the territory the perfect location for extraordinary activities. So mountain sports are "IN", water sports are "OUT" in Australian Capital Territory.
Being the biggest city in Australian Capital Territory, Canberra is the centre of most of the attractions. It is a unique place where the earnestness of being the national capital has been excellently balanced with the cheerful inhabitants, chasing fun. But how about discovering the surroundings as well? The nature reserves, creeks and the observatory are located outside Canberra.
Take a drive to Gold Creek, just around 11km northwest of Canberra and walk through the most lovely garden in the world, namely Cockington Green. Cockington Green is home to an interesting village that consists of English style miniature buildings. Do you think it is time to throw yourself in the arms of nature? Make a visit to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. In addition to the magnificent exhibition of the native flora and fauna, the doors of Tidbinbilla Deep Space Tracking Station are open from 9am to 5pm. Mount Stromlo Observatory is also an option for space lovers.
The best base camp for your vacation in Australian Capital Territory would be Sydney. The national capital, Canberra, is only 280km away from Sydney and daily busses and trains are available between these two cities. If you prefer air travel, Canberra is accessible only with domestic flights from other capital cities in Australia. International flights are not available.
