Camping and Caravaning in Australia

Camping and caravaning is very popular among the tourists in Australia. Many people simply head to outback with tents and caravans, looking for some adventure. There are plenty of camping sites close to the most popular touristic places like national parks or Fraser Island, where the campers can simply either drive around with their own equipment or rent a caravan or even a hut.

The life standard in the camping place depends on each place but basic facilities like proper toilets, warm water, showers, coin operated washing machines and barbecues are usually provided. Please note that electricity is available only at powered-sites which cost slightly more than the unpowered ones.

Since Australian summer is the most popular time to visit Australia, it should be kept in mind that between the middle of December and February the schools are on vacation so the local tourists increase the demand to the camping places as well. Therefore, it is wise to book the facility in advance in case of a visit during high season.

It is also allowed to camp in the nature in Australia. So called 'Bush Camps' offer this opportunity. No toilets or showers (or similar facilities) are provided in this type of places and making open fire in such areas is strictly forbidden. Therefore, it is recommended to have a camping stove with.
